News rules are one of the easiest ways to lose a payout you thought you'd earned. The most common trap: the evaluation allows news trading, but the funded account doesn't. Here's what each firm we track says on its own pages.
The three kinds of news rule
- No restriction. Trade straight through releases; only your normal drawdown and size limits apply.
- A time window. You can't open, close or modify orders for a few minutes either side of a high-impact release. Holding a position opened earlier is usually fine.
- A behaviour rule. News trading is allowed, but certain tactics are banned, such as bracketing both sides of a release or going maximum size into it.
Firm by firm
| Firm | Evaluation | Funded |
|---|---|---|
| Bulenox | Allowed, no blackout | Allowed, no blackout (flat by 3:59 PM CT) |
| Tradeify | No rule against news | No rule against news |
| Apex | Allowed as part of your normal strategy; no "chasing" or two-sided bracket gambling | |
| Topstep | Short restriction around Tier 1 events; no full maximum position into scheduled major news | |
| Top One Futures (Elite Daily) | No restriction | No orders from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after major high-impact news |
| Take Profit Trader | No news rule in the test | PRO and PRO+ have a news rule |
| FTMO | Free in Challenge and Verification | 2 minutes either side of selected releases, on affected instruments only (not on Swing accounts) |
| The5ers (High Stakes) | Holding through news allowed; no opening or closing trades 2 minutes before or after high-impact news | |

What counts as "executing" in a window
Firms with a window usually count more than market orders. Top One lists opening or closing a trade, placing pending orders and modifying a stop loss or take profit. FTMO says the restriction covers your stop loss, take profit and pending orders too. So a stop that fills inside the window can still count as a violation.
Only the affected instruments
FTMO applies its window to instruments tied to the release. During US NFP you can still trade EURGBP, but not USDJPY or GBPUSD, within the window. Check whether your firm works the same way before assuming every symbol is locked.
Practical checklist
- Read the rule for the funded stage, not just the evaluation.
- Use the calendar your firm names. Top One points to the FXStreet calendar; FTMO marks restricted events in its own calendar.
- Set no stops or targets that could trigger inside a window.
- Expect slippage. Topstep says it doesn't adjust accounts for losses from slippage during releases.

Quick answers
Which prop firms allow news trading with no blackout window?
Of the firms we checked on Oct 25, 2026, Bulenox (no blackout windows) and Tradeify (no rules against news trading) allow it on evaluation and funded accounts. Apex allows it as part of your normal strategy but bans two-sided bracket gambling.
Can I hold a position through a news release?
Usually yes at firms with a 2-minute window, as long as the position was opened before the window and nothing executes inside it. FTMO, The5ers and Top One all say this on their own pages.
Does the evaluation news rule carry over to the funded account?
Not always. Top One's Elite Daily and FTMO allow news in the evaluation but restrict it once funded, and Take Profit Trader adds a news rule at PRO.
